拿着2000块的月薪生活在这么一个高消费的城市， 他不得不量入为出。
make ends meet
量入为出，收支相抵

字面意思就是把两头接在一起，好象生活是由一条直线围成的圆圈，首尾不相连就没法继续转动下去。
跟中文的捉襟见肘，入不敷出比较起来，还能稍微富裕些。

工作了一整天之后， 他回到家倒在床上歇口气。

Catch one's breath 喘息，歇一口气。

比较一下：
After working for a whole day, he went back home and rested himself on the bed.
还是第一句更形象。

这句话如果这么说意思也对，但就是平淡无味
The news and info. found on your web cannot be discovered on other sites.
我们说了这么 多年平铺直叙的英语，也是时候提升一下档次了。

这句话的后半句真的非常有用，重要你想表达非此不可，排除其他选择的意思，都可以用上would never otherwise have done...

He taught me something precious that I would never otherwise have learned from others.
他教会了我一些从别人那里学不到的宝贵的东西。
